Epic Aircraft’s E1000 AX turboprop single is the latest airplane to join the ranks of those equipped with FAA-approved Garmin Autoland systems. Installation of the system includes Garmin’s autothrottle and, in the E1000 AX, multiple Autoland button locations make it easier for passengers to engage the system during an emergency such as pilot incapacitation.
The Autoland system can automatically select a suitable airport, factoring in distance, runway length, fuel range, terrain, and weather; pick the best runway; fly to that airport and communicate with air traffic control; explain to passengers what is going on; then land, brake to a stop, and shut down the engine.
Autoland can be engaged by pushing the button, or if it determines that a pilot is incapacitated, it will engage automatically.
“Only the E1000 AX offers multiple Autoland button locations throughout the cabin, placing this potentially lifesaving technology within easy reach of passengers, providing them great peace of mind,” said Epic Aircraft CEO Doug King. “Earning FAA certification for Autoland is the result of years of dedicated engineering and testing. It reflects our team’s unwavering commitment to safety, and we’re proud to bring this technology to E1000 AX owners.”
