A proposal by the FAA/industry rulemaking advisory committee (ARAC) to revise the Airline Transport Pilot type rating airman certification standards (ACS) <a href="https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=FAA-2018-0811-0001">has been published</a> for comments. The standards, which have not been updated in more than 10 years, provide the aeronautical knowledge, risk management, and flight proficiency elements necessary for pilots to meet ATP flight training and test requirements.

 


This proposed ACS incorporates and supersedes the previous Airline Transport Pilot and Aircraft Type Rating Practical Test Standards (PTS) for Airplane, FAA-S-8081-5, dated July 2008. This proposal is also the agency’s “foundation of its transition to a more integrated and systematic approach to airman certification,” the agency said. “The ACS is part of the safety management system framework that the FAA uses to mitigate risks associated with airman certification training and testing.”

 


The FAA has reviewed the draft ATP/Type Rating ACS, made some changes based on internal feedback, and is now seeking comment from the public. A copy of the document has been placed in the docket for this action. The FAA will review and consider all comments received and make any necessary changes prior to issuing the final version of the ATP/ Type Rating ACS. Comments are due December 21.
