Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

The U.S. House today is considering a nearly $16.6 billion budget for the FAA in Fiscal Year 2018 as part of a major government funding package.&nbsp;The House yesterday began debate on the <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2017-09-05/faa-reauthorization-limbo-congress-returns">omnibus appropriations package </a>that combines eight appropriations bills, including Transportation, House and Urban Development&nbsp; (THUD) funding legislation.

 


In July, the House Appropriations Committee <a href="http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2017-07-19/us-house-appropriators-seek-boost-faa-funding" target="_blank">approved the THUD bill</a> that would provide a $153 million boost to the FAA’s funding over the current fiscal year and a $453 million increase over the White House request.

 


The House THUD package emphasizes safety and alternative fuel funding. It includes a number of provisions of note to the business and aviation community, such as the continued ability for the business aircraft operator to request that its tail number is blocked from display on public real-time tracking services.

 


Consideration of the bill began in the House yesterday and debate has been carried into today.&nbsp;The White House has indicated it would sign the bill, but its fate is less clear in the Senate, which is eying a stop-gap funding measure instead that would fund the government at current levels possibly through the end of the calendar year.
