Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

NATA is praising an FAA proposed Advisory Circular on aircraft inspection programs (AIPs), saying it fills a gap in guidance on developing such programs and helps forward the agency’s effort to become more consistent.

 


In comments on the <a href="http://www.gama.aero/files/AC_91-AIPRO_Coord_Copy.pdf" target="_blank">proposed AC 91-AIPRO Approved Aircraft Inspection Program</a>, NATA director of regulatory affairs John McGraw said the association “applauds” the agency’s effort to create the guidance. “There is currently very little guidance to instruct industry on how to develop an AIP and this AC is a positive step forward,” McGraw said. “The average age of the general aviation fleet is increasing, making it important for owners to have the flexibility to develop an inspection program customized to the operation of their aircraft. The proposed AC provides the types of information necessary for aircraft owners and operators to safely operate and maintain their aircraft.”

 


The AC, he added, will provide a more consistent application of policies surrounding AIPs. “Currently, there is very little consistency between inspectors and offices regarding what information should be provided when applying for FAA approval of an AIP,” McGraw said. This has resulted in a variety of programs and methods for AIPs.

 


“In some instances programs have not been approved because the inspector might not know what is expected,” he said. It is NATA’s hope the proposed AC will provide inspectors the information and necessary comfort level to review and issue inspection program approvals.
