Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

The FAA is seeking input on its runway status lights (RWSL) program as the agency looks to expand the advisory system to more airports.&nbsp;RWSL, operational at 15 of the nation’s busiest airports, alerts pilots and vehicle operators when it is unsafe to enter a runway or taxiway.

 


RWSL taps into the airport’s surface surveillance system to monitor current and future traffic on runways and taxiways. Red lights embedded in runway and taxiway pavement illuminate when other traffic makes it dangerous to enter or cross a runway, or begin takeoff, the FAA said. In 2013, the FAA announced plans to expand the scope of the program to 17 airports.&nbsp;All 17 are to be operational next year. The agency said it is considering installing the system at more airports.

 


The FAA has developed<a href="https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RWSLPilotSurvey"> a survey</a> to assess whether the program is meeting expectations about cost, performance, schedule and benefits, according to NBAA, which noted that the findings will be compiled in a report accompanied by any potential recommendations for changes to the program.

 


“NBAA fully supports the FAA’s effort to gather this information to improve the RWSL program in support of airport safety,” said Bob Lamond, NBAA director of air traffic services and infrastructure. “The RWSL program represents an important positive step in improving runway safety and avoiding runway incursions.”
