Jeppesen ForeFlight has incorporated safety management system (SMS) software into its flight-planning ecosystem to help small and midsize business aviation operators add an SMS to their operations. Demonstrations of ForeFlight SMS are available this week at the company’s NBAA-BACE exhibit.

ForeFlight SMS features tools for hazard reporting, risk assessment, corrective and preventive action management, internal audits, and safety performance visibility, according to Jeppesen ForeFlight. Users can report hazards, incidents, near collisions, and accidents via the web, on the ForeFlight Mobile app, or with a QR code.

An ICAO-based risk matrix enables evaluation of baseline and residual risk, and operators can monitor risks in a single risk register and track hazards through to resolution. Operators can assign, track, and verify corrective and preventive actions, with scheduled checks to confirm their effectiveness.

ForeFlight SMS also enables internal auditing with customizable checklists and creates a dashboard for safety visibility into top hazards, open corrective actions, and overall safety status.

Included in the SMS subscription, ForeFlight’s flight risk assessment tool (FRAT) shares data with the SMS, “allowing pre-flight risk assessment data to flow into the same safety ecosystem,” according to the company.

“ForeFlight SMS was built to give small and mid-size operators an easier way to manage safety without adding complexity,” said Jeppesen ForeFlight chief product officer Tim Schuetze. “By connecting safety workflows with the operational data already captured in ForeFlight, operators can spend less time managing disconnected systems and more time managing risk.”
