Northwell Health’s MD Onboard has launched a pediatric emergency medical advisory service for its passenger gate screening and inflight medical events products. This provides 24/7 access to two-way video with board-certified emergency physicians specializing in pediatric medicine.

Also on tap for the MD Onboard aviation medical platform is a partnership with the Centre for Aviation Psychology (CAP), which provides mental health, resilience, and peer support solutions for aircraft operators.

Children account for 9% to 12% of reported inflight medical emergencies, according to MD Onboard, citing published studies. “Children are not simply smaller adults, particularly in an emergency and especially within the constraints of an aircraft cabin,” said MD Onboard CEO Grant Jeffery.

He added, “Introducing dedicated pediatric emergency medicine expertise into the inflight environment represents an important advancement in aviation medical care. By offering this service, we are creating a more precise, specialist-led model, connecting the right clinical expertise, technology, and operational context to every case in real time.”

The partnership with CAP allows the two organizations to “offer airlines and business aviation operators a structured, confidential, and aviation-specific support model designed to help crew access the right support earlier, before personal challenges escalate into safety, performance, or fitness-for-duty concerns,” according to MD Onboard.

Clients will benefit from MD Onboard’s and CAP’s provision of confidential peer support, resilience resources, clinical escalation pathways, and critical incident support. Its anonymized reporting is also aligned with aircraft operators’ safety management systems.

“Crew wellbeing is no longer a standalone HR topic,” said MD Onboard chief growth officer Wehda El Aridi. “It is a core component of operational resilience, safety culture, and organizational performance.”

The integration with MD Onboard enables “helping operators support their people earlier, more confidentially, and in a way that reflects the operational realities of aviation,” according to the company.
