A <a href="https://easa.europa.eu/system/files/dfu/NPA%202015-19.pdf" target="_blank">Notice of Proposed Amendment</a> (NPA) from EASA aims to revise cabin interior requirements of CS-25(certification specifications for large airplanes)to accommodate interior designs, modifications, renovations and installations in larger business aircraft. Currently, the rules are intended for airliners that feature interiors for relatively high numbers of passengers.

 


“CS-25 is, therefore, not fully adapted to cabin interiors of business jets, [meaning] those with lower-density interiors [that] offer a greater level of comfort and amenities and are often non-commercially operated,” EASA said. “This results in various interpretations of the requirements for business jets, intensifies the risk of an uneven safety level and adds excessive and undue certification costs.”

 


The NPA proposes to add to CS-25 a new appendix for “low-occupancy airplanes,” EASA’s generic terminology for business jets. In addition, new and amended CS-25 requirements are proposed for any kind of transport-category airplane, regardless of the type of interior arrangement or operation. A decision on the NPA is expected in the third quarter.
