Transport Canada has approved an acoustic soundproofing kit developed by aircraft interior specialist Skandia for Bombardier Challenger 600-series business jets. The regulatory nod announced on Tuesday at NBAA-BACE matches existing FAA and EASA permissions achieved four years ago by the Illinois-based company.

According to Skandia, the soundproofing kit, which it engineered and tested in-house, can lower cabin noise by an average of 3.1 dB. The company said this roughly halves cabin sound energy from the forward to the aft portion of the cabin, with minimal added weight.

The product is offered from an a-la-carte menu, with operators able to select options such as skin damping, floor damping, thermal acoustic insulation bags, and an overframe blanket. The kit is delivered with schematics and instructions for installation.

Skandia believes this mix-and-match approach provides flexibility but added that it can also offer further customized solutions to suit an operator’s needs. The company already has soundproofing kits for turboprop aircraft such as the Beechcraft King Air 200 and Pilatus PC-12, as well as for several other large-cabin business jets.

“With Transport Canada approval, operators in the Challenger’s home market now have access to the same proven cabin noise reduction that FAA and EASA operators have had since 2022,” said Skandia site manager Manny Valtierra.
