After opening its newest FBO last July at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, N.Y., Richmor Aviation is designing a new FBO terminal and the first phase of a planned three-phase hangar construction project. The Stewart FBO is the company’s fourth, joining facilities at New York’s Columbia County, Schenectady and Dutchess County airports and a standalone hangar at Waterbury-Oxford Airport in Connecticut. Richmor offers maintenance at its Columbia County and Schenectady bases and operates several charter aircraft, including seven Gulfstreams.

The new Stewart FBO, located on a 17.5-acre plot, should be ready for move-in late this year or early next year, according to Richmor’s head of sales and marketing, Rick Brandt. Each hangar phase consists of a 50,000-sq-ft building. “We’ve got some ambitious plans,” he said. These include filling the hangars with charter/management clients attracted by the lower costs of basing their jets at Stewart compared with New York City-area airports. According to Brandt, flying into New York City airports “has become a real sore spot for a lot of pilots and owners. The crazy thing is, if you’re flying in your GIV from California, 100 miles out they’ll slow you down and give you a lower altitude, and you waste 15 minutes just getting in. When you get back to the airplane, you might wait 20 minutes to
get a clearance. Stewart is easy-in, easy-out.”
