Sun ’n’ Fun 2017 might go down as seminal for plug-and-play replacements for aging avionics in general aviation aircraft, and TKM Avionics (formerly Michael Avionics) brought a line of digital retrofit radios that are a perfect fit for aircraft owners looking to upgrade their ILS-capable King KX155/165 navcom radios.
“These 8.33 kHz EASA-compliant radios are compatible with both 14- and 28-volt aircraft and are direct plug-and-play replacements,” said Ken Beckemeyer, TKM president and CEO. The radios feature active flip-flop frequencies, memory, touch points and a bright daylight readable display, and are expected to retail around $3,000.
“These units are so simple that per FAR Part 43 pilots can replace them,” said Beckemeyer. “They weigh the same as the old units by design, so after replacement it is a simple aircraft logbook entry and the aircraft is back in the air.”
