A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

GE Aerospace’s CT7-2E1 turboshaft engine has reached a utilization milestone, logging more than 500,000 in-service flight hours since it entered the market in 2013.&nbsp;Designed to meet requirements for long-range, high-speed performance, the engine powers Leonardo’s midsize-twin AW149 and super-mid AW189. It incorporates the architecture of the CT7/T700 engine family, which now has tallied more than 100 million flight hours across all variants.
Like its siblings, the CT7-2E1 features Fadec, use of advanced materials, lower weight and fuel consumption, and lower-cost maintenance advantages versus other powerplants in its class.&nbsp;The engine also has been used to demonstrate sustainable aviation fuel blend use in the AW149 at global airshows, illustrating GE’s efforts to support reduced carbon emissions.
“Crossing half a million flight hours is a testament to the CT7-2E1 engine’s performance, and we’re proud of the close partnerships we’ve built with customers around the globe that rely on this engine to power their helicopters to execute critical missions every day,” said Elissa Lee, the OEM’s executive director for commercial turboshaft engines. “The CT7-2E1 engine continues to deliver the dependability our customers need.”
