A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Fledgling FBO chain Vantage Aviation has made a splash by acquiring two facilities in Greenville, South Carolina, from the same owner.
At Greenville Downtown Airport (KGMU)—the busiest GA airport in the state—Vantage will rebrand the Greenville Jet Center, the lone service provider on the field. The FBO there occupies 3,000 sq ft on the ground floor of the airport’s terminal, with more than 18 acres of ramp. It has 200,000 sq ft of hangar space spread across the airport.
The company obtained a new 35-year lease (including options) from the Greenville Airport Commission and, as part of the negotiations, agreed to build a minimum of two new hangars capable of sheltering ultra-long-range business jets, the first of which is expected to open by mid-2026.
Donaldson Jet Center at Donaldson Field Airport (KGYH) is one of three providers on the field. It offers a trio of 10,000-sq-ft hangars with an FBO lobby. Vantage plans a major renovation of the facility.
Last October, the company announced its <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2024-10-21/vantage-aviation-buys-richmond-fbo-part-new-network">arrival</a> in the FBO market with its purchase of Dominion Aviation at Richmond Executive-Chesterfield County Airport (KFCI) in Virginia. It is also <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2024-12-09/colorado-airport-receive-second-fbo">developing</a> a new FBO at Colorado’s Rifle Garfield County Airport (KRIL).
“We are thrilled to announce our acquisition of both the Greenville and Donaldson Jet Centers,” said Vantage founder and CEO Ryan Maxfield. “The economic growth of the area has been the primary driver for the increasingly high demand for new hangars and general aviation services at both KGMU and KGYH.”
