A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

In recognition of its adoption of renewable electricity, Signature Aviation has received a 2024 Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).&nbsp;The global aviation services provider was honored on Tuesday at the Renewable Energy Markets Conference in Denver for its outstanding clean energy initiatives.
Green power is defined as electricity generated by renewable resources such as wind, solar, geothermal, low-impact hydro, biogas, and eligible biomass. Signature currently uses more than 97 million kilowatt-hours of green power company-wide for the year, enough to meet 100% of its overall electricity demand. That amount, according to the EPA, is enough to power approximately 9,000 average homes annually.
The award—which has been presented every year by the agency for more than two decades to companies that have embraced green power and advanced the nation’s renewable power market—also recognized Signature’s tiered green power development strategy, including onsite solar energy generation, its investment in renewable energy, and electrification initiatives, as well as its industry engagement and leadership.
Signature is the first FBO chain to achieve 100% green energy procurement. CEO Tony Lefebvre served as chair of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association's environmental committee from 2020 to 2023, stressing the importance of renewable energy to various groups across the value chain.
“We are honored to be recognized by the [EPA] for our achievements in helping bring about a clean energy future,” said Lefebvre. “As an organization committed to shaping the future by meeting 100% of our electricity needs through green power procurement, we have seen firsthand that clean energy is an affordable, accessible choice that can reduce the risks brought about by climate change.”
