A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Sweet Aviation—a division of Surack Enterprises, which owns several aviation businesses—has purchased Goshen Air Center, the sole FBO at Goshen Municipal Airport (KGSH) in Indiana since 1992.&nbsp;The facility includes an 8,000-sq-ft terminal with a pilot lounge and snooze room, showers, refreshment bar, three conference rooms, onsite car rental, and crew cars.
It also includes 28,000 sq ft of hangar space that can accommodate aircraft up to a Dassault Falcon 2000. That hangar also houses the location’s Part 145 maintenance station and Garmin-approved avionics repair shop.
Among the first changes Sweet Aviation plans to introduce are expanded line service hours, with the terminal open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily.&nbsp;The company has experience as a single-source provider since it also operates the lone FBO at Indiana’s DeKalb County Airport (KGWB) and offers various services at Smith Field (KSMD) and Fort Wayne International (KFWA) airports.
Surack also owns Aviation Specialty Insurance, rotorcraft manufacturer Enstrom Helicopter, and charter provider Sweet Helicopters. Company founder and owner Chuck Surack purchased a hangar for the latter at KGSH in 2017 to accommodate clients traveling to Notre Dame University and the greater Chicago area.
“I am so grateful to be able to welcome Goshen Municipal Airport into the Sweet Aviation family,” said Surack. “Goshen Air Center is a great success story with a solid foundation.”
As part of the deal, Sweet Aviation also acquired operator Aircraft Charter Services and added a pair of Cessna Citation XLS and two Citation Encores to its KFWA-based charter fleet, which currently includes the Cirrus Vision Jet, Pilatus PC-12, and Cirrus SR 22.
