A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. The families of two construction workers killed in the <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2024-02-02/boise-airport-hangar-collapse-kills-3-injures-9">collapse of a hangar</a> in Idaho earlier this year have sued the contractors who were building it.&nbsp;
Workers of Big D Builders were assembling the framework of the 39,000-sq-ft structure at the Jackson Jet Center at Boise Air Terminal/Gowen Field (KBOI) when it collapsed in high winds on January 31, killing the two workers who—according to the lawsuit—were sent by the contractor from another site because the project was behind schedule. Also killed in the disaster was the construction company’s co-owner.
The legal documents claim a variety of infractions, including that the builder had a set of building plans approved by the city but decided to use a second set provided by Steel Building Systems that called for less bracing. They also allege that on the day of the tragedy, three of the four support cranes on the site were removed by Inland Crane, while the remaining one was not rated for high winds and was improperly attached to the structure.
Lastly, the lawsuit states that the building was being constructed from a mix of pre-fabricated and locally manufactured components that did not fit together properly.&nbsp;A report on the accident from the Occupational Health and Safety Administration is expected in the coming months.
