A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) today announced the first major renovation to its&nbsp;Safety 1st line service training program since it went online in 2008, with the launch of the all-new NATA Safety 1st Training Center. The web-based program is based on specific input from the organization’s members and users.

 


In addition to a content makeover with refreshed video, photos, and audio, the updated program has changed from a certification-centric model, where students must complete the entire curriculum to earn certification, to a ratings-based approach, where the learner can concentrate on tasks based on operational needs&nbsp;and earn specific ratings as training is completed in each area. This allows organizations to customize their training as staffers take on different tasks.

 


Like the legacy program&nbsp;it is replacing, this new system is a mix of e-learning on the computer&nbsp;and on-the-job training, as well as practical and written exams that must be successfully completed before participants&nbsp;earn their rating. The system provides resources for company training coordinators on how to conduct the live training and testing portions. These resources are designed to reduce training coordinator&nbsp;workload, as well as simplify&nbsp;and streamline&nbsp;the training bookkeeping process.

 


For the first time, it can also directly integrate a customer’s internal training content into its learning management system, generating a single digital record for all employee training.
