A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

California-based aircraft services provider and FBO operator Clay Lacy Aviation has announced the latest recipients of the Clay Lacy Pilot Scholarship at Orange Coast College (OCC). The company founded by legendary pilot Clay Lacy&nbsp;initiated the scholarship program in 2017 to recognize the dedication and hard work of four OCC aviation science students each year, awarding them funds to help lower the costs of flight training, allowing students to earn their private, instrument, or commercial pilot license.

 


Katie Kirby and Joseph White are the two latest to be recognized. Kirby is the co-captain of the OCC flight team and will soon take her private pilot checkride, while White, a member of the two-year school’s flight team, is working through the cross-country flight phase of his training. The program recognizes two recipients per semester.

 


“When companies like Clay Lacy are involved, it helps us hone our program so our students are better prepared to enter and succeed in the workforce,” said Daniel Schrader OCC’s dean of the school of technology. “We look forward to continued collaboration with Clay Lacy as we educate the next generation of aviation professionals here in Orange County."

 


Since the start of the program, the company, which has its headquarters at Van Nuys Airport, has contributed more than $32,000 in scholarship funding.
