Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

Gogo Business Aviation obtained supplemental type certificate and parts manufacturing approvals from the U.S. FAA for dual-directional antennas that, with the Gogo Avance L5 system, will connect to the new Gogo Biz 4G network. Through the 4G network, the Gogo Avance L5 system (formerly known as Gogo Biz 4G LRU) provides “a more robust experience” for live streaming video, on-demand movies, real-time data, remote diagnostics and other online activities in flight, Gogo said.

 


“Using our proprietary Gogo Biz 4G network, Gogo Avance L5 will deliver an in-flight Wi-Fi experience unrivaled by anything else in business aviation, and demand from customers is strong,” said Sergio Aguirre, Gogo’s senior v-p and general manager. “We told the marketplace that we would launch 4G service in mid-2017, and we met that commitment.”

 


Efforts are under way for multiple STCs that will pave the way for installation of the Avance L5 system on more than 40 business jets, Gogo said, adding that existing STCs should facilitate installation on the majority of other aircraft. Avance L5 is designed to be “future-ready” in anticipation of Gogo’s Next Gen network that is scheduled to launch in 2018 and anticipated to provide data speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
