A Beech King Air 200 suffered substantial damage when it hit terrain during a missed approach in night IMC at Minnesota’s Moorhead Municipal Airport on November 23. The pilot and one passenger sustained minor injuries and five passengers were uninjured in the mishap. Fuel leaked from the damaged airplane, but there was no fire and the occupants were able to evacuate without assistance.

 


According&nbsp; to the <a href="http://app.ntsb.gov/pdfgenerator/ReportGeneratorFile.ashx?EventID=20161128X83501&amp;AKey=1&amp;RType=Prelim&amp;IType=LA">NTSB preliminary report</a>, the twinturboprop was on the final segment of a GPS approach to Runway 30 at its planned destination of Moorhead Municipal when the pilot initiated a missed approach after losing visual contact with the runway environment. The aircraft crashed into a field about one-half mile short of Runway 30. Visibility at the time was one-half mile in mist under a 300-foot ceiling.

 


The IFR flight was operated by charter provider Flight Development under Part 135 and had departed from Minnesota’s Baudette International Airport about 45 minutes before the accident. The airplane, N80RT, was registered to "Slice of the 406 LLC" of Helena, Montana.
