Banyan Testing New Ramp-rash System

Wingspan Systems has announced RampTrack, a new ground accident avoidance system intended to help prevent ramp and hangar accidents by tracking aircraft on the ground and issuing a warning if they are at risk of striking a building, aircraft, vehicle or person. Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Banyan Air Service will be the launch customer. The system uses redundant sensors, intelligent software and visual and aural alarms to reduce the chance of hangar rash due to contact with toolboxes or ground tugs while relocating or taxiing aircraft. It uses intelligent video input to identify the aircraft and potential threats. According to the manufacturer, the affordable system can also help save money by reducing the number of employees required to reposition aircraft safely. The system is expected to begin engineering field testing at Banyan this month.
