Goodrich is one of the beneficiaries of Cleveland-based TRW’s March decision to split the company apart in a move to fend off a $6.68 billion hostile bid by Northrop Grumman. On June 18 Charlotte, N.C.-based Goodrich announced it will purchase the aeronautical systems division of TRW for $1.5 billion. The deal is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter, pending approval by U.S. and European regulatory agencies. The TRW unit manufactures and sells engine controls, flight controls, avionics systems, electric power-generation and management systems, cargo systems and hoists and winches. TRW supplies the variable-frequency power-generation system on the Bombardier Global Express, among other systems for business, commercial and military aircraft.
