<p>Amid much fanfare, L-3 Communications this morning introduced its SmartDeck Integrated Flight Controls and Display System at the NBAA Convention in Atlanta. “SmartDeck avionics elevate aircraft and pilot performance,” L-3 Avionics Systems president Adrienne Stevens said. “Our 45-year history…incorporated with extensive human factors research and testing, enabled us to create the most intuitive, cost effective system available.” SmartDeck integrates navigation, weather, traffic avoidance, terrain avoidance, communication, flight controls, engine monitoring functionality and enhanced vision into one system. The avionics maker also announced that Cirrus’ “the-jet” will be the launch platform for the integrated avionics suite. “Cirrus has always maintained that easy-to-use, intuitive avionics are key to increased air safety and necessary to grow the market,” said Cirrus cofounder and CEO Alan Klapmeier. “That is why we chose SmartDeck for this development phase of our personal jet. While it is technologically advanced, it is remarkably powerful, yet easy to use.” </p>
