ITP Aero is making good progress on the full-scale production of combustors for Pratt &amp; Whitney’s GTF engine family in the UK. ITP expects to deliver the first combustor in the coming months at the Hucknall site in the East Midlands. It plans to start full-scale production next year.
The delivery of the first combustor in the coming months represents a “significant achievement” for ITP Aero, the former Rolls-Royce subsidiary remarked. In 2023, ITP Aero solidified its partnership with Pratt &amp; Whitney by signing an agreement to manufacture combustors for the GTF engine family. Since then, ITP Aero secured approvals to collaborate with the engine maker on ways to meet growing demand.
“Expanding ITP Aero’s support of the GTF program will ensure Pratt &amp; Whitney meets the historic demand for this engine,”&nbsp;said Dave Emmerling, vice president of commercial aftermarket and partnerships at Pratt &amp; Whitney.
The Spain-based aero engines and components group gained full ownership of Rolls-Royce’s former site at Hucknall when it was sold to Bain Capital in 2021. Its independence from Rolls-Royce allowed it to diversify its manufacturing and aftermarket businesses and use its advanced capabilities and technologies to win contracts with other engine manufacturers.
The 2023 agreement with Pratt &amp; Whitney marked “a pivotal milestone in our strategic plan, leveraging our technologies and capabilities within the UK to drive business growth with a key customer,” said&nbsp;ITP Aero Group CEO Eva Azoulay.
