Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines powered the Airbus A330neo’s first visit to the Farnborough Airshow, where the new reengined widebody sits on display in the static park. The visit comes as Rolls-Royce makes final preparations for the engine to enter service, with formal certification imminent.

 


Airbus chose the Trent 7000 as the exclusive engine choice for the A330neo, the first version of which—the A330-900—is expected to enter service this year.

 


“The team at Rolls-Royce is excited to see the A330neo arrive at Farnborough,” said Rolls-Royce civil aerospace president Chris Cholerton. “The Trent 7000 brings together the latest technology from the Trent XWB and combines it with architecture from the Trent 1000 TEN and more than 50 million hours of flying experience from the Trent 700.”

 


The 68,000- to 72,000-pound-thrust Trent 7000 benefits from a bypass ratio double that of its predecessor, the Trent 700, and offers a 10-percent improvement in specific fuel burn with less noise, the company said.
