A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. With Mexico hosting next year’s FIFA World Cup, aviation services providers there are anticipating “unprecedented” business aviation traffic over the span of 13 matches held in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.
The tournament—possibly the world’s most watched sporting event—will begin on June 11 in Mexico City. According to ICCS, one of the country’s largest FBO operators, early estimates call for 4 million visitors to the country during the course of the event, which will last for more than a month. That will cause congested runways at the host city airports, potential slot limitations at major international airports, and reduced availability of ground handling, fueling, and ramp space.
For private aircraft operators, planning should start now by contacting providers to discuss handling and parking coordination; coordinating services such as hotels, catering, ground transport, and security; and identifying alternate and overflow airports. Since Mexico has long permit processing times, operators should begin the application process as soon as possible.
In December, the final tournament schedule will be announced, and airport authorities are expected to issue slot rules and airport procedures.
ICCS will provide services at all three host cities, with a <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2025-06-13/mexican-fbo-chain-readies-world-cup-traffic">new FBO</a> scheduled to be operational at Toluca International Airport&nbsp;(MMTO)—the primary general aviation gateway to Mexico City—in advance of the tournament.
