A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has launched a nearly $19 million, five-month construction project to rebuild segments of taxiways at Van Nuys Airport (KVNY), which will cause overnight operation disruptions.&nbsp;Under repair is Taxiway C from Runway 16R/34L to 16L/34R; Taxiways H, M, and N; and Taxiway P between Taxiway B and Runway 16R/34L.
This has resulted in overnight closures to Runway 16R/34L this week. Starting on Sunday at 10:30 p.m. PST, the runway will be closed for 80 consecutive hours—through 6 a.m. on Thursday. This will be followed by closures of similar duration starting on November 16&nbsp;and November 30.
On December 7&nbsp;and lasting for four consecutive days, the runway will be closed each night at 10:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning. That will be repeated from December 14 through December 18.
The work will pause over the holiday period and resume on January 4&nbsp;with a full 80-hour closure of 16R/34L, which will be repeated for the next two weeks before reverting back to the four consecutive nightly closures commencing on January 25&nbsp;and February 1.
According to LAWA, the project will deliver important upgrades and extended lifespan to airfield facilities and include full-depth asphalt pavement section reconstruction, infield grading and drainage improvements, airfield electrical improvements. airfield lighting and signage, and pavement markings.&nbsp;The improvements are being phased to minimize operational impacts.
