For business aviation passengers, the ability to travel and arrive at their destination at a time of their choosing is part of private aviation’s value proposition, and for those traveling to Japan, that can be an extra benefit, according to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
According to these officials, demand for business jet access at Tokyo Haneda International Airport (RJTT) is concentrated during daylight hours, while the late evening to early morning (11 p.m. to 6 a.m.) times remain less utilized. As it works to improve RJTT’s business aviation availability, the local government is pointing out the advantages of accessing the airport outside peak hours.
While Haneda sits close to Tokyo’s business districts and hotels, passengers can avoid much of the road congestion during the day. By scheduling a late-night departure, they can enjoy the city’s dining and nightlife before heading to the airport. On early-morning arrivals, they can freshen up at their hotel before beginning business activities.
The airport operates a 24/7 dedicated business aviation terminal to facilitate such activities. Each flight must have a confirmed arrival and departure slot, designated parking appropriate to the aircraft type, a CIQ (customs, immigration, and quarantine) appointment, and ground handling arrangements.
At NBAA-BACE last month, Tokyo Metropolitan Government representatives met with industry stakeholders to gather feedback to “inform future outreach and improvements to the operating environment” at RJTT.
