A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Sustainable fuel technology developer and producer LanzaJet noted a milestone this week in the construction of its Freedom Pines Fuels project in Soperton, Georgia. This facility&nbsp;will bring sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production to the East Coast.
The company explained that the fabrication of the alcohol-to-jet production technology, developed in partnership with the U.S. Energy Department’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, is complete and that installation of the equipment that converts ethanol—derived from waste-based feedstock—into sustainable fuel has begun at the location.
“I’m proud to see LanzaJet continue to soar ahead as they develop sustainable aviation fuel,” said Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Georgia). “I was proud that the Inflation Reduction Act, which is now law, enacted provisions from the AERO Act, a bill I introduced and championed to boost sustainable aviation fuel production and bring more clean energy jobs to Georgia.”
When LanzaJet's first full-scale facility—located less than 100 miles from Savannah—begins operations next year, it is expected to produce 10 million gallons of SAF&nbsp;and renewable diesel annually, doubling the current U.S. SAF production.
LanzaJet has declared its ambition to eventually produce one&nbsp;billion gallons of SAF a year in support of the U.S. government’s <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2021-09-10/white-house-rolls-out-initiatives-boost-saf">SAF Grand Challenge</a>, which targets three billion gallons of U.S. SAF production a year by 2030&nbsp;and sufficient SAF by 2050 to meet the aviation industry’s decarbonization goal of net-zero emissions.
