Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

The U.S. Congress is expected to bring up a compromise bill shortly that would extend the FAA’s operating authority, potentially through the end of Fiscal Year 2017, and address certain other aviation issues. Lawmakers were reportedly ironing out final details and an FAA extension&nbsp;yesterday, and the measure could reach the House floor tomorrow or Friday, according to Politico. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) added potential consideration to this week’s floor agenda.

 


While details have not yet been released, the compromise is not expected to include the House proposal to create an independent organization to run the nation’s ATC system. But the compromise bill is believed to include other provisions such as consumer protections and possibly the third-class aeromedical exemption.

 


Congress has just&nbsp;10 days to act before the FAA’s current operating authority expires on July 15. The compromise bill, believed to continue the FAA’s authorization through September 30 next year, would provide the new Congress time to re-establish after the fall elections before having to address FAA reauthorization again. It also provides backers of an independent ATC time to attempt to build support for their plan.
