U.S. Government Shutdown Disrupted GA Disproportionately

FAA air traffic controllers were not furloughed as part of the 16-day government shutdown, but they showed up on Capitol Hill to protest the congressional gridlock on October 10. In all, some 15,500 FAA employees were idled by the shutdown, including employees at the registration office in Oklahoma City, bringing aircraft transactions to a standstill. (Photo: Roger A. Mola)

While the U.S. Congress passed legislation on October 16 that put an end to the 16-day government shutdown, getting agencies such as the FAA fully back up to speed will likely take weeks–adding to the adverse impact widely felt within the general aviation community and beyond.
