Russia’s Sukhoi Civil Aircraft is stepping up the development of its <a href="http://ainonline.com/aviation-news/2012-09-24/sukhoi-boosts-sbj-range-lowers-market-estimate">Sukhoi Business Jet</a> (SBJ) and is set to install an executive interior into the first example of the Superjet 100-Long Range (SSJ100-LR) airliner, from which its new VIP model is derived. Flight testing of SSJ100-LR S/N 95032 is due to be completed by the end of this month, with the aircraft having made its maiden flight on February 12 from the Dzemgi airfield of the Komsomolsk-upon-Amur Aircraft Production Organization (KnAAPO), which is building the aircraft for Sukhoi.


Sukhoi’s goal is to secure a type certificate for the SBJ in time for Moscow’s MAKS airshow in August.


Like the SSJ100LR, the SBJ will feature winglets that Sukhoi says will deliver a 3-percent improvement in aerodynamic performance compared with the standard SSJ100 airliner, which is already in service. As well, the SBJ has an increased maximum takeoff weight of 109,019 pounds–almost 7,900 pounds more than the original aircraft. Thanks to additional fuel tanks under the flight deck, the max fuel load is 4,175-U.S gallons, giving the SBJ an <a href="http://ainonline.com/aviation-news/2012-09-24/sukhoi-boosts-sbj-range-lowers-market-estimate">increased range</a> of up to 4,250 nm. Switzerland-based Comlux is the launch customer for the SBJ, and Sukhoi has confirmed a new order from the Russian government, with delivery due in 2014.
