The municipal airports in New Braunfels and San Marcos, Texas, aim to land larger aircraft and attract manufacturing firms to central Texas with refurbished runways and taxiways, drainage and signage. The Economic Development Partnership of Central Texas (EDPCT) is promoting the region while here at NBAA’08 at Booth No. 3471.
Some 90 percent of the $8.5 million of improvements planned at New Braunfels over two years would come from the Texas DOT capital program. The EDPCT seeks another $8 million from Congress for comparable upgrades to San Marcos Municipal Airport, whose Berry Aviation employs 100 staff. Central Texas is also home to CFAN, a partnership of GE Aircraft Engines and Snecma, which builds precision composite parts.
