A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) company SkyNRG has broken ground on DSL-01—its first production facility—in Delfzijl, the Netherlands.&nbsp;This marks the end of a seven-year-long development process, including permitting approvals and financing agreements, and the start of the company’s evolution from a SAF distributor to producer.
DSL-01 will use the HEFA pathway to produce SAF from renewable oils, fats, and greases. The plant is slated to come online in 2028 with an anticipated output of 34,200,000 gallons annually, along with 35,000 tonnes of sustainable byproducts such as propane, butane, and naphtha.
The SkyNRG project is the first commercial-scale SAF refinery to secure non-recourse financing, reflecting growing market confidence in the renewable fuel’s production and use. According to the company, it “provides a model for future sustainable fuel projects globally.”
“Reaching this important milestone in the development of our DSL-01 facility marks an important step in our transition to becoming an owner and operator of SAF production capacity,” said SkyNRG CEO and co-founder Maarten van Dijk. “It is crucial that we increase the global production of SAF to enable future generations to have the ability to fly when needed, and SAF plays a vital role in the decarbonization of aviation.”
