At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh today, DBT Aero unveiled the DBT 2LX, an unusually configured two-seat, composite airplane with a double box tail, capable of cruising at more than 200 knots, flying 1,000 nm, and with a useful load of nearly 800 pounds. DBT Aero is targeting meeting the FAA’s MOSAIC certification regulations for light aircraft designs, although those have yet to be released.
Powered by a Rotax 916iS piston engine with a constant-speed propeller, the DBT 2LX will be priced at $500,000 and offered as a factory-built airplane or an experimental amateur-built kit with optional builder assistance. The factory-built model will require a $10,000 deposit and the kit $2,500. Other engine configurations are being explored, including a turboprop and hybrid-electric and hydrogen propulsion.
The box tail configuration results in the wingtips curving upward to connect to upper lifting surfaces that terminate at vertical stabilizers that attach to the lower wing outboard of the pusher-configured engine.
