Embraer and Brazil's Air Force Launch Military Transport Study

A new Brazilian program could produce a new light transport to follow in the footsteps of the successful Bandeirante.

Embraer was formed to produce the EMB-110 Bandeirante, and the type still performs sterling work for the FAB in a range of utility transport roles, but it is aging and a replacement is needed. (photo: David Donald)

Embraer and the Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB, Brazilian air force) signed a memorandum of understanding on December 19 launching a joint development study for a new light military transport. The new aircraft would be optimized to carry cargo and personnel, especially in the Amazon region and austere environments, including operations from unpaved, short and damaged runways located in remote areas.
