Actor and pilot John Travolta will detail his experiences from his 50 years of flying during a Pilot Talk that Bombardier is hosting at its NBAA-BACE static display at 3 p.m. on October 20. Travolta is rated in more than a dozen aircraft and has been known to own multiple business aircraft and VIP airliners at one time.
Over the years, he has owned a variety of Boeing, Bombardier, Eclipse, Dassault, and Gulfstream models, among others. Earlier this year, he obtained a second-in-command type rating on the Global Express to celebrate his 72nd birthday and had previously secured ratings for Challenger and Learjet models. A pilot since he was 22, Travolta became known for his airmanship following the 1992 emergency landing at Washington National Airport that he made after an electrical failure on his Gulfstream II had knocked out his instruments. He used a flashlight and magnetic compass to make that landing.
Travolta’s talk is among several activities, attractions, and events that Bombardier has planned during NBAA-BACE. The Montreal-headquartered manufacturer is bringing its flagship Global 8000, which was certified and entered service late last year, along with a Global 6500 and Challenger 3500 for the static display at Henderson Executive Airport. Bombardier’s adjacent hospitality chalet will house a “L’Expérience” showcase that highlights the innovation, vision, and craftsmanship of its product line. During Bombardier’s participation at BACE, it will emphasize its product support, which led the AIN Product Support Survey for the third consecutive year.
“Our focus has always been on investing in our people, advancing innovation and expanding our global network to deliver the level of service and support our customers expect throughout the life of their aircraft,” said Bombardier president and CEO Éric Martel. “Having our flagship Global 8000, Global 6500 and Challenger 3500 aircraft on site says a lot about the strength of our portfolio and why customers continue to choose Bombardier, time and time again.”
