Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

More than 60 Clay Lacy Aviation line service technicians have completed OEM-authorized ground handling and service training for Gulfstream aircraft, the FBO operator and business aircraft maintenance provider said. Gulfstream Aerospace teamed with FlightSafety International in designing the specialized training to improve dispatch reliability and increase safety.
Sixty-six technicians from Clay Lacy Aviation’s FBOs in Van Nuys and Orange County, California, have completed the courses. The company plans next to start training technicians at its soon-to-open FBO at&nbsp;Waterbury-Oxford Airport in Connecticut.
The program features explanations and demonstrations of best practices for supporting the full range of Gulfstreams. Designed to identify and mitigate risk to people and aircraft on the ramp, the training includes parking, walkarounds, fueling, towing, and snow and ice removal.
According to Clay Lacy Aviation, the training exemplifies a company-wide approach to a culture of safety, as recently demonstrated by FAA validation that placed Clay Lacy in the top 2 percent of Part 135 operators in the U.S. to complete the agency’s voluntary safety management system program.
“Comprehensive training demonstrates Clay Lacy Aviation’s commitment to…[a] safety-focused culture at our FBOs,” said Buddy Blackburn, senior v-p of FBO services. “When our newest FBO opens this year in Connecticut, our technicians will be similarly trained.”
