Gregory Polek has spent his entire career in aviation journalism with AIN, starting as a proofreader and assistant to then-managing editor Mary Mahoney in 1995 after serving an internship with&nbsp;New Jersey Monthly&nbsp;magazine and completing his B.A. degree in English/Writing at New Jersey’s William Paterson College. By 1997 Polek accepted a position as an associate editor, covering the regional airline beat for&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;in place of retiring industry veteran Don Anderson. The assignment took Polek across North America and Europe to profile regional airlines varying in size and mission from the likes of floatplane operators Kenmore Air and Chalk’s Ocean Airways to regional jet operators such as SkyWest and American Eagle. Today, in his dual role as Air Transport Editor and International Airshow Editor, Polek writes, edits, and manages AIN’s commercial aviation content while overseeing each of the company’s daily international air show publications in Paris, Farnborough, Singapore, and Dubai. Most recently Polek has assumed oversight of daily coverage of the Helicopter Association International’s annual Heli-Expo convention.

Viasat on Tuesday unveiled “enhanced” business aviation in-flight broadband service options that harmonize its Ka-band product with the Jet ConneX offering from its recently acquired Inmarsat business.
As a result, Viasat will make available an expanded range of service options to business aviation customers using its existing GAT-5510 terminal along with three upcoming Jet ConneX terminals—Satcom Direct’s Plane Simple Ka-band, Orbit’s AirTRx30, and Honeywell’s JetWave X. All will become available in early 2024 for aircraft equipped with the GAT-5510 and upon entry into service for aircraft with any next-generation Jet ConneX terminal.
Viasat developed the expanded service options using feedback from customers and partners that asked for greater flexibility while ensuring a consistent broadband experience for passengers wherever and whenever they fly.
Customers will benefit from the strength of Viasat’s network, which offers more Ka-band capacity than any other airborne connectivity provider, according to the company. Meanwhile, the lightweight design of the new terminals optimizes performance and reduces costs while simplifying installation and maintenance.
With fewer line replaceable units, the next-generation terminals suit various types of business jets, including large-cabin and smaller aircraft, making them appropriate for aircraft operating globally or within just one region. Furthermore, Viasat designed the systems for installation outside the pressure vessel, saving baggage space.
Viasat also announced an incentive for customers who use its SwiftBroadband and SwiftJet L-band airborne connectivity.
“We’re excited about the positive impact that Viasat’s acquisition of Inmarsat will deliver to our business aviation customers," said Viasat head of business aviation Kai Tang. “The harmonization of our Ka-band service is a prime example of what can be achieved by bringing the best of both companies together.”
