Robinson Helicopter is now offering an FAA-approved pressure refueling system as an $18,000 option on its R66 turbine single. The 13-pound system, located on the helicopter’s right side, provides a connection at waist level and allows for rapid refueling without the need for a ladder or opening the cowl door to access the main fuel cap.

A control panel allows the pilot to select full or partial fuel loads. The system incorporates automatic shutoffs to prevent overfill or overpressure and an audio alert warns the pilot if the fuel hose is still connected at takeoff. The shutoff valves are used to provide redundant protection to prevent over-fueling. Both valves must be open to allow fuel to flow. Each valve is connected to an independent float switch in the fuel tank to close the valve when the tank is full. An independent pressure switch closes the valve if fuel tank overpressure is detected. One of the valves is also connected to a second float switch to shut off at 40 gallons.
