A lifelong aviation enthusiast who joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in 2007, Curt came to&nbsp;the publication&nbsp;from the broadcast industry where he was a national science and technology television reporter and producer. He writes on the FBO field, aviation finance, and sustainable aviation and occasionally contributes to&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;sister publication&nbsp;Business Jet Traveler. Curt was a member of the AINtv reporting staff that won the 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year award for Best Airshow Daily. That same year, he was a finalist for another AJOYA award. He earned an AJOYA for Best Business Aviation Submission in 2018 and was a finalist in that category in 2021. He received the National Air Transportation Association’s&nbsp; Aviation Journalist Award in 2012 and won a Pegasus Sapphire Business Aviation Award for outstanding journalism in 2021.
Before joining AIN, Curt worked with&nbsp;Consumer Reports’ television division, CRTV, and for several local television news staffs. An honors graduate of the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University in 1995. Curt lives in New York State with his wife and two young sons.

Global aviation fuel provider Avfuel has received FAA approval for its online fuel safety training program, allowing FBOs and operators to now use the Michigan-based company’s Line Fuel Service and Supervisory Fuel Service Training program to meet FAR 139.321 fuel safety regulations. This makes it the only aviation fuel supplier with an in-house FAA-approved online safety training program, according to marketing manager Buffey Muth.

 


The approved coursework is part of the company's new online education platform, the Avfuel Training System (ATS), which provides a learning environment that enables FBO management to more easily centralize and facilitate staff training. “When customers visit the online portion of the ATS, they’re presented with a more intuitive learner and manager dashboard with a more modern interface,” explained Muth. “It also offers easy access from any device.”

 


Avfuel's ATS course, which uses video and other resources to teach, includes topics such as aircraft fueling, fuel handling and fire safety, aviation fuels and additives, fuel system icing inhibitor, contaminants and fuel testing methods, fuel load receiving procedures, fuel storage systems, mobile refueling equipment, and recordkeeping. An annual company subscription covers employee’s access to the site, which allows users to train at their own pace.
