Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

A U.S. congressman is hoping to increase air travel options by changing the caps on foreign ownership in U.S. air carriers. Rep. Dave Brat (R-Virginia), who is a member of the House Travel and Tourism Caucus, introduced a bill, the <a href="https://brat.house.gov/uploadedfiles/free_to_fly_act_final_version.pdf">Free to Fly Act (H.R.5000)</a>, which would reduce mandatory U.S. ownership requirement for U.S. air carriers from 75 percent to 51 percent. The bill further would alter the requirements of the makeup of an air carrier board from two-thirds U.S. citizens to 51 percent.

 


Brat called the foreign ownership requirements an outdated relic from the Great Depression and said, “The elimination of this outdated restriction is long overdue. As an economist, I understand that hindering investment hurts American businesses, workers, and consumers."

 


The bill was introduced with the backing of a number of airline passenger advocacy groups such as Flyers Rights, as well as travel groups such as the U.S. Travel Association. In 2007, the FAA <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/aviation-international-news/2007-11-26/10-million-civil-penalty-ends-tag-faa-dispute">revoked the Part 135 certificate</a> of AMI Jet Charter dba TAG Aviation USA because Swiss-based TAG owned 49 percent of AMI.
