Lombardo covers business aviation maintenance-related issues. He is also a writer and on-air reporter for AINtv. He has over 3000 articles published and is the author of several books on aircraft systems for pilots and on the topic of flight simulation.
He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from the University of Illinois, has taught aviation for over 35 years in industry and as a university professor and academic dean at three different universities. He is also a frequent seminar and after-dinner motivational speaker.&nbsp;
Lombardo holds an A&amp;P Certificate, ATP, CFI and Ground Instructor ratings. He was a corporate pilot and was a research pilot and flight instructor at the University of Illinois. An FAA Safety Counselor for over 25 years, he was one of the original 13 Counselors appointed to the FAA’s Airworthiness Safety Program for maintenance technicians.&nbsp;

As a manufacturer-appointed service provider in Europe for PW300 engines, Jet Aviation’s maintenance center in Basel, Switzerland, worked closely with Pratt &amp; Whitney Canada to acquire the tools and training to comply with the manufacturer’s Service Bulletin 72-47178 for baffle replacements. The SB calls for replacement of the left and right bevel gear oil shield on PW307A engines and is classified as a "heavy maintenance" input.

 


“Demand for this service is strong, and we invested in the required tooling and training under this Service Bulletin to ensure we can continue to support our customers as needed," said Hans-Peter Amacher, manager of the engine shop at Jet Aviation Basel. "Our acquired expertise extends to P&amp;WC’s improved number four bearing carbon seal and seal runner [under SB 72-47217], which can also be incorporated with the baffle replacement.”

 


Earlier this year, the Basel maintenance center received approval from the EASA to operate its new Honeywell auxiliary power unit overhaul facility for the GTCP36-100/150 series.
