Kerry Lynch stepped into the role of editor of the&nbsp;Aviation International News&nbsp;monthly magazine in May 2022 after serving with&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;for eight years. She joined&nbsp;AIN&nbsp;in December 2014 as a senior editor covering Washington and business aviation news. She has also served on Convention News teams, including as editor of&nbsp;HAI Convention News. Lynch previously spent 25 years with Aviation Week. During her time there, she reported for and later steered&nbsp;The Weekly of Business Aviation, oversaw business aviation content on the&nbsp;Aviation Week Intelligence Network, served on the&nbsp;Show News&nbsp;staff, and held roles as the Washington columnist for&nbsp;Business &amp; Commercial Aviation&nbsp;and&nbsp;Overhaul &amp; Maintenance&nbsp;monthly magazines. In 2021 she was honored with the National Business Aviation Association Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in journalism and was the 2004 recipient of the National Air Transportation Association’s Aviation Journalism Excellence Award. She also has been a recipient of an Aerospace Media Award for business aviation (2022) and NBAA Gold Wing Award (2003, 2024). Lynch graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of arts in journalism.

Opposition to a proposal to separate the U.S. air traffic control organization continues to mount on Capitol Hill, with U.S. House Appropriations Committee leaders saying they cannot support a plan that limits congressional oversight. The House Appropriations leaders voiced their opposition in a February 1 letter to the top leadership of the full House.

 


The letter comes less than a week after Senate Appropriations leaders wrote <a href="http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2016-02-01/us-senate-lawmakers-step-opposition-atc-plan">a similar letter</a> to the Senate Commerce Committee and just a few days before the House Transportation and Infrastructure (T&amp;I) Committee is expected to unveil a comprehensive FAA reauthorization bill that would carve out the ATC organization. T&amp;I Committee chairman Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) today announced a press conference tomorrow at the Capitol Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. to unveil the bill, with a discussion about it scheduled to take place on Thursday at the National Press Club.

 


Similar to their Senate colleagues, the House appropriators wrote, “We do not believe that creating a separate air traffic entity, removed from congressional oversight, will advance the efforts to modernize air traffic control.” They agreed that the FAA can improve and accelerate NextGen but said, “We do not believe the solution is less oversight and less accountability.”
