Matt Thurber, editor-in-chief at AIN Media Group, has been flying since 1975 and writing about aviation since 1978 and now has the best job in the world, running editorial operations for Aviation International News, Business Jet Traveler, and FutureFlight.aero. In addition to working as an A&amp;P mechanic on everything from Piper Cubs to turboprops, Matt taught flying at his father’s flight school in Plymouth, Mass., in the early 1980s, flew for an aircraft owner/pilot, and for two summer seasons hunted swordfish near the George’s Banks off the East Coast from a Piper Super Cub. An ATP certificated fixed-wing pilot and CFII and commercial helicopter pilot, Matt is type-rated in the Citation 500 and Gulfstream V/550. Based in the Pacific Northwest, Matt and his team cover the entire aviation scene including business aircraft, helicopters, avionics, safety, manufacturing, charter, fractionals, technology, air transport, advanced air mobility, defense, and other subjects of interest to AIN, BJT, and FutureFlight readers.

Textron Aviation has selected sister company TRU Simulation + Training’s ProFlight to be the training provider for new King Airs equipped with the Rockwell Collins touchscreen Pro Line Fusion flight deck. Training in a full-motion level D-qualified simulator will begin in September, coincident with entry-into-service of the first <a href="https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/business-aviation/2015-05-19/pro-line-fusion-touchscreens-populate-king-air-cockpits">Pro Line Fusion-equipped King Air 250</a>.

 


Pilot training for the Fusion-equipped 350i/ER and C90GTx will be available when these models enter service in this year’s fourth quarter and the second quarter of next year, respectively. The TRU simulator will be convertible to replicate the three King Air models, and ProFlight will also offer training for pilots of King Airs retrofitted with the Pro Line Fusion package.

 


Training will take place at ProFlight’s facility in Lutz, Fla., near Tampa, and maintenance training will be available at the new TRU Maintenance Training Academy at the Textron Aviation campus in Wichita. In addition to the level-D simulator, ProFlight will use computer desktop trainers, a level-6 flight training device and a Rockwell Collins avionics trainer. The Florida training center is set to receive FAA Part 142 and EASA aircraft training organization certification.
