FAA Seeks Comments on AC for Engine Safety Inspection

The AC is intended to provide guidance for demonstrating compliance with safety test requirements.

The FAA seeks comments on a draft advisory circular —AC 33.90-1A—created to provide guidance for demonstrating compliance with the safety test requirements of the agency’s initial engine maintenance inspection. Section 33.90 requires for each engine model for which a new type certificate is requested a test run that simulates conditions under which the engine is expected to operate in service, including start-stop cycles that are typical of expected service use. The testing helps establish any entry-into-service initial engine maintenance inspection intervals for a particular type design.
