Deutsche Post DHL announced on January 19 that it has agreed with Ohio’s Clinton County Port Authority (CCPA) to donate DHL’s former Air Hub/Wilmington Airpark to Wilmington, Ohio. The transfer is expected to close before the end of this month. The airport features two runways–one 10,701 feet long and the other 9,000 feet. DHL invested $310 million in the airport before shutting down cargo operations there in 2008. “With the donation,” said Deutsche Post DHL CEO Frank Appel, “we will close a challenging chapter in our company’s history.”
The CCPA plans to develop the airport as an airport/commerce park, including leasing part of the airport to ABX Air parent company Air Transport Service Group. The CCPA will work with Wilmington, Clinton County, the state of Ohio and local municipalities
in developing the airport.
