Matt Thurber, editor-in-chief at AIN Media Group, has been flying since 1975 and writing about aviation since 1978 and now has the best job in the world, running editorial operations for Aviation International News, Business Jet Traveler, and FutureFlight.aero. In addition to working as an A&amp;P mechanic on everything from Piper Cubs to turboprops, Matt taught flying at his father’s flight school in Plymouth, Mass., in the early 1980s, flew for an aircraft owner/pilot, and for two summer seasons hunted swordfish near the George’s Banks off the East Coast from a Piper Super Cub. An ATP certificated fixed-wing pilot and CFII and commercial helicopter pilot, Matt is type-rated in the Citation 500 and Gulfstream V/550. Based in the Pacific Northwest, Matt and his team cover the entire aviation scene including business aircraft, helicopters, avionics, safety, manufacturing, charter, fractionals, technology, air transport, advanced air mobility, defense, and other subjects of interest to AIN, BJT, and FutureFlight readers.

Roel Pieper’s European Technology and Investment Research Center (Etirc) has filed for bankruptcy, ending Etirc Aviation’s once-lofty plans to distribute Eclipse 500s in Europe and Russia and build an Eclipse assembly plant in Russia. Etirc announced plans to become an Eclipse distributor and help companies operate air-taxi networks two years ago. Last year, Etirc founder Roel Pieper deepened his relationship with Eclipse, investing $150 million in the very light jet manufacturer and joining the board of directors as chairman. Last July Pieper became acting CEO after founder Vern Raburn was forced to leave Eclipse. Pieper made an effort to buy Eclipse after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last November, but that effort failed and Eclipse was placed into Chapter 7 (liquidation) bankruptcy on February 24. Since then various entities have launched efforts to buy Eclipse’s assets, one of which includes Pieper on its board. As part of the insolvency process, Etirc’s assets will be sold to pay taxes and creditors.
