He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from the University of Illinois, has taught aviation for over 35 years in industry and as a university professor and academic dean at three different universities. He is also a frequent seminar and after-dinner motivational speaker.&nbsp;
Lombardo holds an A&amp;P Certificate, ATP, CFI and Ground Instructor ratings. He was a corporate pilot and was a research pilot and flight instructor at the University of Illinois. The Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology (MIAT) will incorporate FlightSafety’s Principles of Troubleshooting course into its curriculum. The move is designed to help students develop a better understanding of the latest technology used in aircraft as they prepare for a career as professional aircraft technicians. 
The course uses an advanced software simulation program that exposes the technicians to a wide variety of scenarios that give them the opportunity to practice and perfect their troubleshooting techniques. According to a FlightSafety spokesman, numerous major and regional airlines have incorporated the program into their maintenance training. 
MIAT expects that graduates who have followed the enhanced program will also be more attractive to prospective employers.
