Chile’s LAN Airlines has reached an agreement with Boeing to advance the start of delivery of ten 787-8 Dreamliners it has ordered by three years, from 2014 to the first half of 2011, the airline announced yesterday. Under the new schedule, LAN would become the first airline in the Western hemisphere to take delivery of the type. It holds firm orders with Boeing for a total of 18 Boeing 787-8s and eight 787-9s, previously scheduled for delivery between 2014 and 2019. LAN also holds outstanding orders for six leased 787-9s from ILFC.
The airline noted that the 787s will assist in the renewal and growth of the company’s long-haul fleet, allowing LAN Airlines and its subsidiaries to serve international destinations, improving connectivity between Latin America, Europe and the U.S. Its long-haul fleet includes 28 Boeing 767-300ERs and five Airbus A340-300s.
